Who’s Roxanna Floyd?
About 4 years ago, I was on a job and it was a great day on set! I was doing my makeup thing, just creating a master piece of sorts, you know–the usual, and the team had a brief break. The other artists on the set were a bit older than me, but that was no hinderance–most of my jobs are with older artists, not sure how that always happens, lol. Then, out of nowhere, the hairstylist gave me a few compliments, and said, “You remind me so much of Roxanna.”. Trying to think of who this Roxanna could be, because she went on with her tasks, as if I knew, lol. Finally I asked, ‘Who’s Roxanna?’. She quipped back, ” Roxanna Floyd . Makeup artist! You know, Roxanna! She passed away, but you’ve definitely seen her work.” I smiled, and again, graciously thanked her for the kind words.
Later that day, (because I’m a nerd), I looked up this Roxanna Floyd. And let me tell you, she’s everythaaaannggg!
The images I’ve been drooling over for years, were a product of her masterful hands. Roxanna was a celebrity makeup artist to stars such as Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, Angela Bassett, and most notably–Whitney Houston & Queen Latifah. Her work was STUNNING! Here’s an awesome article written about her for the esteemed publication, Makeup Artist Magazine, plus her cover work for issue 24. A quick screenshot of some of the article:
‘Natural’ Makeup Artist to the Stars
Scanning her social profiles, the compliment I’d received earlier that day, now meant so much more–as I noticed everyone praised her personality just as much as her craftsmanship. I became a fan of Roxanna that evening, and was so glad I was able to add to my list of beauty heroes.
She was dedicated to the ‘natural makeup’ aesthetic, as am I. How refreshing to know, I am in great company!
A few well recognized shots of Roxanna’s work:
Originally, this beauty post scheduled for today was going to be a recreate of 1 of my favorite entertainers, Ms. Lauryn Hill. And ironically, the image is 1 that Roxanna did the makeup for. Crazy huh? So I decided to turn this beauty recreate into that AND a tribute to the late artist. My blog post is a ‘Brown Girl Beauty’ #Throwback, sparking a new wave of celebration for the beauty of 90s makeup, that allowed brown skin to soar.
But Roxanna did it with ease! The women she painted looked effortlessly flawless, and their faces didn’t SCREAM makeup! Something only a true artist & diligent student of the craft can pull off.
Today would have been Roxanna’s 56th birthday. All the more fitting for this post to serve as a recreate of 1 of her looks + a tribute to the artist herself. Happy birthday, Mrs. Floyd, I pray you’re resting in sweet peace💜
I hope I did this recreate justice, it was a ton of fun doing it!
I’m always so careful about doing recreates, because, let’s be real, every look ain’t for everybody–I don’t care how on trend it is, lol. Plus, I like to do the ones that are a bit more interesting:-) If you hadn’t heard of the late Roxanna Floyd before now, I hope I was able to inspire you by sharing her work and remembering her life!
Leave me comment below and share this tribute + celeb recreate on your pages!

Until next time, bye lovaas💋
